YWCA Exceeds Fundraising Goal on Housing Project

The YWCA in Yellowknife has surpassed their initial fundraising goal for new 21-unit family housing complex.

Thanks to the help of the Welcome Home Campaign, the YWCA has been able to pass their goal of $250,000. All of the families who will be moving into the new complex in downtown Yellowknife will have access to 21 fully furnished suites.

“We set an ambitious campaign goal to raise these funds in a short period of time, and we’re so thankful to our supporters who helped us exceed this goal and who believe in our work to help women and families reach their full potential,” said Kate Reid, YWCA NWT President. “This building will be a beautiful, accessible, welcoming space where families can move into stability and have all the essentials they need for a fresh start.”

The campaign was bolstered by large donations, grants, and gifts-in-kind from Clark Builders, the Yellowknife Community Foundation, Dragon Toner Law Office, Crowe Mackay, DC Moving, the Yellowknife Elks Lodge #314, the Government of the Northwest Territories Anti-Poverty Fund, and a generous legacy gift.

Funds raised from the Welcome Home campaign will help make the new building a warm, welcoming home for families and go towards the purchase of furnishing family suites and providing residents with essentials such as linens, kitchen sets, and cleaning items. It will also support the purchase of ensuring program rooms have everything they need to welcome new residents.
