Aurora College has just received a donation of over $600k from the Suncor Energy Foundation.
To help support the college’s STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) Outreach Team for the next four years, Suncor has given $602,500 to the Aurora Research Institute. The Institute’s programs cover subjects like traditional sciences, as well as chemistry, physics, coding and digital literacy, and coding camps.
This money is intended to help the school meet the growing demands in STEM education across the North, as the programming will be focussed on giving smaller communities around the Territory a better chance at accessing STEM education.
The Aurora Research Institute had been working for much of last year to expand STEM opportunities. In the 2022-2023 year, they were able to hold up to 450 different hands-on science and literacy events, which is estimated to have reached as many as 8,500 students.
Since 2016, the ARI STEM team has been working to make STEM fields more approachable. They have been working to provide opportunities youth and kids in 21 different communities across the NWT.
