The Town of Fort Smith will soon be implimenting a full fire ban.
The ban will take effect at midnight on May 4th. No open flames will be permitted within the municipal boundary, and barbecues will still be permitted, but must be used with extreme caution.
At the time of writing, there is only one fire burning in the entire NWT, and it is one of the previously reported fires located near the Slave River. This fire was reported to be an overwinter fire from last year, and is expected to be extinguished soon.
