Aurora College has announced the Aurora Research Institute (ARI) STEM Outreach team has received the 2023 Premier’s award in the Teams category.
The win comes after the team’s work in providing experimental science, technology, engineering, and math education to NWT youth and educators to harbour STEM programs at the grade-school level.
According to Aurora College, during the past year, the STEM Outreach team delivered over 500 hands-on STEM events and engaged with youth nearly 10,000 times in more than 25 NWT communities.
“We are proud of the accomplishments our STEM Outreach Team has achieved regionally and territorially,” Aurora College Research VP Joel McAllister says.
The college says the STEM Outreach team has mentored hundreds of NWT teachers which gives NWT schools the ability to provide hands-on STEM programs in their curriculum.
“The education and mentorship of students and teachers ignites experiential learning and affirms cultural values,” McAllister adds.
Aurora College says the team continues to create sustainable programs to expand STEM opportunities in the north with the goal in mind of improving employment and economic opportunities.
