It was just announced that the CIBC Run for our Lives Committee presented a donation of $525,000 to the Stanton Territorial Hospital.
The donation was made back in February, during the Hospital’s NorthwesTel Gift of Giving Gatsby Gala. The money had been put towards the purchase of a Digital Breast Tomosynthesis mammography machine.
This machine develops high-resolution imaging to help better detect breast cancer in patients. The higher quality of the machine compared to existing detection methods also means that patients will not need as many screenings, which in turn helps to reduce their discomfort, anxiety, and the need for them to travel to farther centres for additional testing. The machine has already been purchased and installed, and has been in operation at Stanton since March 5th.
CIBC’s Run for Our Lives event had been working on acquiring this machine since 2021, and since setting that as one of their main targets, participants in the event have helped the campaign to far exceed initial expectations.
Tanya Kearny, current Chair of the CIBC Run for Our Lives Committee, said in a statement that the Run for Our Lives event already has a new goal in mind. Over the next three years, the event will be working to raise around $600,000 for four new pieces of cancer-related equipment for the hospital.
“Stanton’s wish list includes a Breast Ultrasound Machine, two Automated Endoscope Reprocessors, and a Colposcope Examination Chair. Ensuring leading-edge and accurate equipment is available for residents will help us continue the fight for prevention and early diagnoses.”
This year, the CIBC Run for Our Lives Mud Run is scheduled for Saturday, September 14th at the YK Ski Club. Registration for the event will begin on Friday, May 10th, and can be found by clicking here.
