We are days away from the beginning of the 2018 Winter Olympics.

The Northwest Territories has sent over three competing athletes – Kevin Koe, Jesse Cockney and Brendan Green.

Minister of Municipal and Community Affairs, Caroline Cochrane, has issued a good luck wish to all three Olympians.

On behalf of the Government of the NWT, each of these athletes will be receiving a handcrafted piece of clothing from Premier Bob McLeod made by an NWT traditional artist that we hope they will wear as a statement of their Northern roots and a token of our pride in their accomplishments.

We spoke with Hay River-native Brendan Green about his Biathlon events. He mentioned the individual races he’ll take part in and how they’ll shape the relay event for Canada.

I won’t have an answer for whether or not I’m in the relay, it usually depends on how you perform at the Games,” Green chuckled. “But it’s for sure a more strategic event. You want to utilize the skill sets of each athlete. I tend to be an anchor, because I have a good final leg, but it really depends on how I finish in my event.

Last week, Yellowknife’s Jesse Cockney spoke about getting ready for the Games.

The 2018 Winter Olympics will kick-off this Friday in Pyeongchang, South Korea.
