NorthWords Announces Author Lineup for 2024 Festival

Yellowknife’s annual NorthWords Writers Festival has announced the authors and programs that will be present at this year’s event.

This will be the 19th year for the NorthWords Festival, which helps to support Northern and Indigenous authors by showcasing their work, and allowing them to stand alongside established writers. Guests to the various panels can also learn writing techniques, giving them a push along their own writing journey.

This year will see six notable authors from different areas of Canada. These guests of honour include Richard Van Camp, Waubgeshig Rice, Ivan Coyote, Carole Rose GoldenEagle, Brandon Wint, and Helen Knott. Each of these authors have received multiple commendations for their work across the country, and come from many different backgrounds.

The Festival will also feature authors from the NWT. The lineup of local authors include Alison McCreesh, Tanya Snow, Dr. Marie Wilson, Stephen Kakfwi, Lana de Bastiani, Kody Ferron, and Amber Henry, among several others. Each of these writers will be sharing their unique stories and voices, drawing from their own perspectives from living in the North.

NorthWords will also be bringing back some of their signature events:

  • Gather: an open mic night for people of all ages to show their writing skills,
  • Authors Showcase: Established authors will perform readings from their own works,
  • Blush: An evening event for more sensual and erotic works.

The 2024 NorthWords Writers Festival will be held from May 30th to June 2nd in both Yellowknife and Hay River.
