GNWT will conduct Emergency Alert Test on Wednesday, May 8th

As part of Emergency Preparedness Week, the GNWT will be conducting a test alert through various platforms.

The test will be conducted at 9:55am on Wednesday, May 8th. Residents are expected to receive the alert on their wireless devices, cable networks, and radio stations. A siren will sound during the test, and will be accompanied by a message stating that there is no need for concern.

The GNWT is performing this test while there is no risk to public safety to make sure that the system will work as intended in the event of an emergency. They are hoping that this system will be an effective way to communicate with the public should any situation occur.

It is noted that not all residents will receive the alert on their wireless devices. There are several factors behind this, including device compatibility, connection to an LTE network, cell tower coverage, device software, and settings.
