Yellowknife School Participating in National Music Cellebration

A Yellowknife school is getting ready to take part in an annual, nationwide music event.

Monday, May 6th is “Music Monday,” which is a day dedicated to raising awareness to the importance of music education in the country. Initially launched in 2005 by the Coalition for Music Education in Canada, every year sees thousands of students and educators take part in a coast-to-coast singalong of the Music Monday song, which is an original composition by a Canadian artist.

This year, the event will be revisting the song that was made in 2015, “We Are One.” That also happens to be the name of the theme for this year, where the song has been translated into 14 different languages.

At least seven different schools across Canada will be taking part in the event this year, and among them is Yellowknife’s Mildred Hall School. For their participation this year, the students will be joining their big/little buddy classes to share the songs that they have been learning together.

The other schools that will be involved are from Nova Scotia, BC, Alberta, Winnipeg, Ontario, and Toronto.
