Salvation Army Reaches $45k Goal in Kettle Campaign

The Yellowknife branch of the Salvation Army was able to reach their goal in their 2023 Kettle Campaign over the holidays.

On the morning of December 27th, the Salvation Army announced that they were able to reach their goal of $45,000 in this year’s Kettle Campaign. Volunteers were set up at several locations across the city to ask for quick donations from shoppers over the month of December.

Rex Fearn, the Operations Manager for the Salvation Army, explained that, despite the setbacks that the year has presented for the Salvation Army, the Kettle Campaign saw just as much healthy traffic as any other year.

“It varied quite a bit. I’ve done it before in previous years, and normally, you get a sort of steady flow of people. I was situated in Canadian Tire, and it came in bursts. One minute, you’ve got a dozen customers, and the next minute, hardly any. We had quite a few around town, so I think a lot of people got opportunities to do it elsewhere as well.”

Fearn added that there was a concern that this year’s campaign would not perform as well as last year’s, but in the end, he believes that they may have ended up doing even better.

The money will be used to help the Salvation Army run its operations in the following year.
