Hay River Declares Winners of 2023 Christmas Lights Contest

The Town of Hay River has shared the results of their 2023 Holiday Lights Competition.

Over the holidays, the town encouraged residents to decorate their houses as lavishly as possible to help bring out the holiday spirit after a hard year.

The displays were separated into four different categories:

“Light Up the Town” for the most creative use of lights,

“Classic Christmas” for the best use of traditional Christmas décor,

“Clark W Griswald” for the most extravagant display that could be “seen from Space”, and;

“Best Business” for the best light display put on by a commercial business.

 

Mayor Kandis Jameson and several members of the Town Council drove around to judge the entries, and shared the winners on the Town Facebook page.

The winners of the Light Up the Town category are Dustin and Paula Gour of 15 Rose Hill. Honourable mentions went out to Brent Babiuk and Jacky Kruger of 39 Wildrose Drive, and Juaning and Ana Capulso of 25 Eagle Crescent.

The winners of the Classic Christmas category are Mike and Dayna King of 334 Miron Drive. Honourable Mentions go to Ron and Trish Schaub of 474 Miron Drive, and George Unka of 41 Wright Crescent.

For the Clark W Griswald category, the winners are Dan and Janine Kipling of 48 Stewart Drive. Honourable Mentions go to Fred and Elaine Bolt of 111 Woodland Drive, Chris and Marshi Earle of 54 Miron Drive, and Al and Lynn Buth of 95 Riverview Drive.

Finally, for Best Business, the winners are West Point First Nation at 47031 Mackenzie Highway. Honourable Mentions go to the Hay River Metis Government Office and Daycare at 10 Industrial Drive, and Midnight Petroleum at 56 Industrial Drive.
