Salvation Army Kettle Campaign Donations Down 25% Compared to Last Year

The Yellowknife Salvation Army is asking for some extra help with this year’s Kettle Campaign.

The annual fundraising event has seen a 25% drop in participation when compared to last year’s Christmas Season. This year’s campaign has donation sites at several locations, including the Co-op, Canadian Tire, Uptown Liquor Store and Downtown Liquor Store.

Major Tony Brushett, Executive Director of the Salvation Army in Yellowknife, said in a statement that “We know it’s been a difficult year for residents with the rising cost of living and the lasting impact the wildfire evacuations had on their ability to make ends meet. We’re seeing people who used to be in a position to donate now coming to us for assistance. Unfortunately, with the growing demand for our services comes an increased need for donations.”

The Kettle Campaign runs until December 23rd. Kettles are out on Thursdays and Fridays from 4-8 p.m., and on Saturdays from 12-6 p.m. If someone can’t make it to a Kettle in person, they can also donate by calling 1-800-SAL-ARMY. All donations made to a Kettle bucket stays local and goes towards The Salvation Army’s Christmas food hamper program that supplies six communities.
