MACA threatens to place Enterprise under administration if modular homes and subsidy payments continue

After a successful re-entry for the Hamlet of Enterprise last Friday, a chilling reality set in for some, as several residents have no where to return to after losing their homes in the blaze.

The hamlet council says they have been working to assist temporary accommodations for residents who wish to return home; however, according to the Hamlet, the GNWT Department of Municipal and Community Affairs (MACA) has informed Enterprise they are not allowed to use funding to purchase modular homes for displaced residents, even temporarily.

Additionally, bi-weekly subsidies for evacuated residents will no longer be provided per MACA orders and payments scheduled for this week will not be processed.

According to the Hamlet, MACA has informed council that if they continue purchasing modular homes and providing subsidy payments, council will be dissolved and the community will be placed under administration.

“While this news is both frustrating and disappointing, we want you to know that the Hamlet continues to support its residents 100 percent,” the Hamlet says.

MyTrueNorthNow has reached out to Enterprise Mayor Michael St Amour, but received no comment.
