GNWT announces new ‘searchable database’ project for evacuees to locate displaced loved ones

The GNWT has announced they are working to re-unify families as part of the ongoing evacuation process affecting most of the NWT.

According to the GNWT, efforts to collect and consolidate data from evacuation centres is underway, and the government says they are committed to reunifying displaced families with their loved ones.

“Evacuees have registered in various different locations, and we are consolidating that information into one searchable database,” Department of Municipal and Community Affairs communications representative Jay Boast says. “This will be published once we have the database compiled,” he adds.

“We certainly recognize in some circumstances people may not want us to share their location and contact information, and we will absolutely respect those wishes.”

The GNWT says the service will be rolled out as soon as possible for evacuees to use and connect with their friends and family scattered throughout the south.
