Alberta schools to host evacuated NWT students as long as evacuation orders take effect

Starting on August 30, evacuated students from British Columbia and the Northwest Territories have the choice to enroll in Alberta schools for the start of the 2023/24 school year.

According to the Alberta government, parents wishing to enroll their children in an Alberta school can contact school divisions directly to ask about available space.

School divisions in 14 host communities have opened up for student enrolment including Edmonton, Calgary, High Level, and Grande Prairie.

Depending on available space, students are welcome in the classroom as long as evacuation orders are in effect.

Upon re-entry, students will be allowed to enroll as usual in the NWT school system.

More information about enrollment and available space is available on the Government of Alberta’s website.
