Municipal of Community Affairs Minister (MACA) Shane Thompson has renewed the Territorial State of Emergency, originally declared on August 15, 2023.
The extended State of Emergency will be in effect from August 29, 2023 until September 11, 2023.
According to the GNWT, the extension will ensure the Emergency Management Organization is better equipped to support the GNWT, community governments, and public agencies through the ongoing wildfire situation in the territory.
Communities in the North and South Slave regions remain under threat from wildfires, and the State of Emergency applies to all NWT communities.
