The wildfire along Highway 3 now stands 16km from the City of Yellowknife at its closest point, with 162,000 hectares burned.
According to NWT Fire, the blaze grew approximately 4km east since the last update.
NWT Fire says there is risk to the City of Yellowknife and teams are doing everything possible to slow fire spread and protect the community.
Significant fire behaviour is expected overnight, with visible smoke and ash falling in Yellowknife, N’Dilo, and Dettah.
Air crews say they were not able to complete drops east of the fir today due to poor visibility; however, crews will continue to hit the flames with as many missions as visibility permits.
