The GNWT department of infrastructure has announced Highway 3 between Yellowknife and Behchokǫ̀ is closed.
“Conditions can change quickly with little to no warning,” the GNWT says.
According to the Department of Infrastructure, the entire highway should not be travelled by residents.
The closure comes moments before power went out in most of Yellowknife, where the majority of Behchokǫ̀ evacuees are staying.

According to reports, the fires near Behchokǫ̀ appear to have interrupted electricity in the city.
The CBC reports restoration is underway using power from Bluefish Hydro and diesel generation from the Jackfish powerplant in Yellowknife.
