Conference of Management Authorities seeking public feedback on two potential NWT Species at Risk listings

The Conference of Management Authorities (CMA) is inviting the NWT residents to comment on two proposed listings and a proposed recovery strategy under the NWT’s Species at Risk Act.

Dolphin and Union caribou have been proposed for up-listing on the NWT List of Species at Risk while currently listed as a species of Special Concern after being reassessed as Endangered in April 2023.

The second species up for listing on the list is the American white pelican after being assessed as a Special Concern in April of the same year.

According to the CMA, the Peary caribou is listed as a Threatened species in the NWT; however, the federal recovery strategy will be implemented to aid long-term conservation efforts.

The CMA says all NWT residents are invited to submit comments regarding the new proposals by sending an email to [email protected] or taking CMA surveys here.
