Aklavik RCMP Investigating Illegal Drug Activity

On June 17, 2023 at 5:35pm, Aklavik RCMP were notified that several residents of the community had verbally confronted a group of three males, which they believed were involved in drug trafficking. The subjects fled into the wood, and shortly thereafter a package containing suspected cocaine was found and turned over to Aklavik RCMP for further investigation.

While this was an example of solidarity shown by the community, the RCMP encourages the public to engage the police, rather than to take matters into their own hands. Additionally, there are implications around the fair treatment of accused persons, not to mention safety implications in confronting unknown individuals.

The RCMP are asking for the public to continue reporting crime and suspicious activity, and call the police when there is a threat to public safety.

As always, the public remains the best source of information about this incident. Anyone with information is asked to contact their local RCMP Detachments or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
