GNWT Announces Winners of 2022 Literacy Award

The GNWT has announced the recipients of the 2022 Literacy Award which honour the literacy achievements of youth and adult learners, exceptional educators, and organizations and businesses across the territory.

The 2022 recipients are:

Outstanding Educator – Diana Gargan and Georgina Franki
Second Language Learner – Bertha Drygeese
Council of the Federation Literacy Award – Western Arctic Youth Collective

R.J. Simpson, Minister of Education, Culture, and Employment, said in a statement;

“Literacy has a profound and pervasive impact on the residents and communities of the Northwest Territories. I am honoured to celebrate the achievements of the 2022 Literacy Award recipients. They deserve to be recognized for their valuable contributions to promoting literacy and encouraging others to celebrate their own achievements.”

With 11 official languages recognized across the Territory, Literacy is a highly respected field in the NWT. Nominations for the 2023 can already be submitted, and will be accepted until July 6th.
