Yellowknife’s Summer Construction Season

The City of Yellowknife has released a detailed list of all the construction projects that will take place throughout the summer.

– A water service repair and the repaving of a section of 50th Street that includes the replacement of curbs and sidewalks has begun;

– The full replacement of all paved surfaces, curb, and sidewalk on a section of Wiley Road has begun;

– The full replacement of all paved surfaces and curb on a section of Kam Lake Road and Deh Cho Boulevard;

– Work to reinstate all asphalt, curb, and sidewalk that was removed on Hordal Road from Spence Road to Finlayson Drive during last year’s upgrades will begin mid-July;

– The full replacement of all paved surfaces, curb, and sidewalk on a section of Franklin Avenue between Weaver Drive and Bretzlaff Drive;

– Phase 1 of construction on Franklin Avenue adjacent to the new Aquatic Centre is scheduled to begin June 12. Lane reductions in this area will be in place until the work is complete. In addition there will be no access to Forrest Drive from Franklin Avenue and the sidewalk across from Forrest Drive at Franklin Avenue will be closed. There will be no left hand turns from Franklin Avenue (in construction zone) permitted.

– Phase 2 of construction on Franklin Avenue adjacent to the new Aquatic Centre will begin in July. Lane reductions in this area will be in place until the work is complete. In addition there will be no access to Forrest Drive from Franklin Avenue and the sidewalk across from Forrest Drive at Franklin Avenue will be closed.

The City thanks residents for their patience as the construction season gets underway and roads or lanes are closed to facilitate the work. Please be attentive to road signs, reduce speeds in construction zones, and plan ahead when commuting, as traffic delays can be expected in construction areas.
