Extreme cold warning for Yellowknife

Very cold wind chills are expected to hit Yellowknife tonight.

Extreme wind chills of -50 are expected overnight tonight up until Monday afternoon when conditions are supposed to improve.

Envirnoment Canada notes that extreme cold puts everyone at risk and advises Yellowknifers to dress warmly.

“Dress in layers that you can remove if you get too warm. The outer layer should be wind resistant. Outdoor workers should take regularly scheduled breaks to warm up.”

Extreme cold warnings are issued when very cold temperatures or wind chill creates an elevated risk to health such as frost bite and hypothermia.
