‘No indication of criminal intent’ in Yellowknife apartment fire

A police investigation into a fire that burned down Yellowknife’s Polaris Apartments has revealed no criminal intent.

RCMP also investigated the circumstances which lead to one occupant being found unconscious, but say no foul play is suspected.

The building was operated by Northern Property REIT and contained 17 suites at the intersection of 49 Street and 52 Avenue.

Aside from the one person who was found unconscious, police say no one else sustained serious injuries when the building went up in flames in the early hours of June 14.

The building, however, could not be salvaged and its occupants lost their homes and belongings.

RCMP deemed the fire ‘suspicious’ the day after flames broke out. Their investigation into the incident is now complete.
