Yellowknife, NWT – Superintendent Ron Smith officially assumed control of the R.C.M.P’s G Division at a ceremony at the Legislative Assembly Wednesday afternoon.

Smith took over from now-former Chief Superintendent Wade Blake who recently moved on to become the director in charge of community justice and policing with the G.N.W.T.

An emotional Blake bid farewell to his fellow Mounties.

“It’s with mixed emotions that I stand here today before you not only to say goodbye as the Commanding Officer of the G Division, but to say farewell to a family that I’ve known, been a part of, sacrificed for, felt the pains with and enjoyed the rewards with. The R.C.M.P family has been a part of my life since I was 18 years old.”

N.W.T Commissioner George Tuccaro, R.C.M.P Commissioner Bob Paulson and Justice Minister David Ramsay were among those in attendance.
