Residents of Hay River, along with the communities of Enterprise and K’Atl’odeeche had are under evacuation order as of 3 p.m. Sunday, as the risk from the Kakisa-Enterprise fire continues to grow.
While officials are asking residents to evacuate south toward Grande Prairie, Alberta, as it was designated as the nearest community for evacuees.
As of Sunday afternoon, the wildfire is 60 kilometres from the community of Hay River, however, wildfire officials say there is a heightened risk of wildfires progressing towards the community as early as this later this evening.
