Evacuation alert announced for Ingraham Trail, fire remains out of control

An evacuation alert has been announced for residents of the Ingraham Trail following an extreme wind warning forecasted for Monday.

According to NWT Fire, all residents and visitors should be ready to leave homes, cabins, and camps no later than August 14 at 8:00am.

Winds of up to 45km/h are expected to push flames to the south and east, potentially causing the fire to reach North Prosperous Lake, North Prelude Lake, and all of River Lake.

The alert may change to an order depending on weather conditions and success of firefighting activities today and tomorrow.

“We do not expect the fire to reach the Ingraham Trail, or any Territorial Parks in the near-term; however, it is important to know things can change and to be prepared,” NWT Fire says.

Airtankers and helicopters have continued making drops on targets to slow fire growth alongside support from ground crews.
