Yellowknife Holding Annual Garden Competition

The City of Yellowknife is currently accepting nominations for the Annual Gardening Contest.

The contest is running from August 1st until Friday, August 11th. Garden nominations will be organized into the following categories;

Tiny Garden –
Gardening of all types in small spaces such as plots and balconies

Bee Friendly –
Environmental/Pollinator Habitat, must have little/no lawn and are environmental/alternative gardens

Vegetable Garden –
Garden judged on vegetables, herbs, and other edible horticulture.

Flower Garden –
Gardens that are welcoming and have curb appeal, while displaying an abundance of blooming flowers.

Container Garden –
Container gardening of all types in small spaces such as plots and balconies

Rock Garden –
Gardens that feature rocks! that are welcoming and displaying a flair for the challenges of horticulture.

Bonus: Front Yard/Curb Appeal –
Gardens that are welcoming and have curb appeal, while displaying a flair for the challenges of horticulture. This includes features such as water gardens, use of containers, and lawn maintenance.

Participants are asked to include at least one picture with their nomination. The pictures will then be uploaded to the City website and Facebook page for others to enjoy.

Residents and visitors are invited to visit the many gardens entered into the competition and partake in voting for their top pick in each category; from Monday, August 7, 2023 to Friday, August 11, 2023. An interactive map of the locations will be made available on-line.
