It just wasn’t meant to be for the NWT this year at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts.
After a huge upset against Group A winners Ontario yesterday, Kerry Galusha and her team had a chance to make it to the championship pool with a win today, and they almost did it.
Team Wild Card Three led by rookie Beth Peterson stole a single in the 10th end to tie the match and added another steal in the extra end for a 9-8 victory, ending any hopes Galusha had of making the next round.
It was looking good for the NWT as they exited the 8th end with an 8-5 lead however the lead did not last long. A double by Peterson in the 9th end shrunk the deficit to one before tying it up in the 10th.
Galusha and her team finished the tournament with a 4-4 record. After the match, Galusha took to Twitter to express her disappointment.
“Thought it could be our year to make a run. It’s not,” she tweeted.
The four advancing teams from Pool A in the Canadian women’s curling championship will be Team Ontario; Team Canada; Team Alberta; and Team Wild Card Three.
