This year’s territorial election has been moved back from October 5 to November 23.
In a short news release on Wednesday morning, the Legislative Assembly confirmed the move.
The reason is to avoid an overlap between the upcoming federal and territorial election periods.
The territory’s 2015 Polling Day Act states that, if those periods are set to overlap as of April 1, the territorial election will be moved.
The change means the federal election remains scheduled for October 19 this year, while the territorial election will now take place on November 23.
