An Aurora College instructor is helping lead a national health research project.
Dr. Pertice Moffitt is one of eleven co-leads of a five-year project. All 11 of the co-leads for the project represent colleges, universities and research hospitals from across Canada.
The work being done is being helped by funding from the Canadian Institutes for Health Research, as a Strategy for Patient-Oriented Research grant. $11 million in cash or in-kind support has also been committed from partners.
Dr. Moffitt says the grant is a huge process.
“Applying for a grant like this, to be successful, is done with the support of many people,” says Dr. Moffitt. She says that in the NWT, the application received support from the Tlicho government and the GNWT Department of Health and Social Services, and that the project holds many potential benefits for the territory. “Indigenous and northern patients and nurses can have input into the types of questions that are brought forward, questions that address their health concerns. [It is also] an opportunity for the faculty of Aurora College to increase their scholarship [by working on such a high profile project]”, says Moffitt.
The goal of the project is to answer health care research questions submitted online. Those questions and answers should help improve health outcomes.
An online research form is expected to be released in the coming months.
