Hopefully you were one of the many who stopped by the soup kitchen just outside the Post Office this afternoon.

The Rotary Club of Yellowknife True North was able to put the event on, with help from partners like the Salvation Army, Food Rescue, Native Women’s Society, YK Choral Society and the Safe Harbour Day Shelter.

Jhillian Adams, President of the Rotary Club, says the turnout was fantastic.

It was actually the warmest it’s ever been since we’ve started running the event,” says Adams. “We had tonnes of foot traffic and lots of people came by. We were really happy with the event as a whole.

Adams added saying the event wasn’t about profiting in any way, but rather, giving back and helping provide some free food for the people in the community.

It’s something that our club does every year and we do try to keep the costs down and absorb the costs as much as we can. It’s part of our service back to the community.

We want to provide a little bit of holiday cheer with some free soup and singing from the Choral Society.
