Saturday Chow Down to be held at ice dome

Yellowknife, NWT – If you are going through Long John Jamboree withdrawal this weekend and are looking for something to do out on Great Slave Lake, you are in luck.

The inaugural Saturday Chow Down is being held tomorrow at the ice dome on Yellowknife Bay.

Organizer Matthew Grogono explains what’s going on.

“We’ve got a 40-foot diameter dome. Inside we have couch fishing with a couch and a hole in the lake. Beside it we have an 18-foot boat converted into a barbeque cooking area. We also have a stage on the bow of the boat where we’ll have musicians performing.”

Grogono says this is the first year for the ice dome in Old Town.

He says it was never intended to be a competitor to the Snow Castle.

“Absolutely not. I’ve never been so surprised at how something was made out of nothing. From our perspective, there’s lots of space for lots of activities and we want to be a complimentary community location.”

The Saturday Chow down begins at 5pm.

The dome is just off Jollife Island, straight out from the Government Dock.
