Residents and businesses in Yellowknife can now purchase faster internet and more data from Northwestel, but it’s going to cost them.
On Monday, the telecommunications provider announced that two new internet packages were available for purchase.
Residential Internet 125 offers speeds of 125 Mbps with 400 GB monthly downloads while the new Business Internet 150 offers speeds of 150 Mbps and 500 GB of monthly usage.
Northwestel says its residential package is available for $189.95 per month, though that cost is reduced to $177.95 when bundled with television.
The business package, meanwhile, is available for either a three-year term at $349.95 per month or a two year term at $399.95 per month. The month-to-month rate is $449.95.
“Whether you are a gamer, stream video, or run a web-focused business, these packages will put previously unavailable speeds at your fingertips,” said company spokesperson Andrew Anderson.
Northwestel says it spent the summer upgrading its systems to accommodate the demand for faster internet.
