Yellowknife has a new group dedicated to directing local volunteer services, and it’s already in effect.
As of April 1st of this year, Yellowknife Volunteers was established. This is a group where local residents can coordinate with organizations in the area who are seeking volunteer labour. Volunteers will be sent to wanting groups not just within the City, but to Behchoko, Ndilo, and Dettah as well.
The focus of the group will be to help out organizations such as charities and non-profits, grassroots groups, and community governments. It is mainly looking for any group that deals in:
- sports and recreation,
- health and wellness,
- emergencies,
- diversity and inclusion,
- poverty reduction,
- education,
- arts and culture, and
- community events.
The group also has certain ideals in mind for those who wish to sign up as volunteers. They are looking for those who may be looking for extra high school credits, people who are new to the community, people who are looking for something fun to do, or to meet new people, and those who want to help build on the community.
