Yellowknife Appoints New City Manager

The City of Yellowknife now has a new City Manager.

After a selection process filled with a number of qualified applicants, John Colin has been selected for the position, and will be officially instated on April 9th.

John has worked in various leadership and management positions for nearly 40 years. Much of his experience comes from a 35-year-long career with the Canadian Armed Forces, where his work and accomplishments eventually landed him the position of Major-General.

After his time in the Military, John worked for a time with Bruce Power, and before moving to Yellowknife, he served as the City Manager for Saint John in New Brunswick for four years. During his tenure, Saint John battled severe financial troubles, and overcame them with many different initiatives and plans to many of the issues that are common to modern cities.

As the highest senior official in the City, the City Manager is accountable to the Mayor and City Council in regards to the policies and programs delivered by the staff at the City. The City government has expressed their thanks to the outgoing City Manager, Sheila Bassi-Kellett, for her service over the last seven years.
