Fort Smith RCMP Make Several Charges & Arrests in Two Separate Cases

Fort Smith RCMP have made several arrests in relation to two recent and major cases.

On September 30th the Fort Smith RCMP responded to a complaint of two men who appeared to be passed out. As reported previously, these men were found to be suffering serious injuries and one of them was transported to Edmonton Hospital due to serious facial injuries. Neither of the men were able to provide information relating to how they were injured at the time.

Since the initial report, the Fort Smith RCMP have been investigating the incident and this led to the execution of a search warrant at a residence in Fort Smith on October 12th, 2023. While officers were searching the residence, evidence relating to drug trafficking at another residence was recovered.

The officers applied for a second search warrant under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act and executed the warrant at the second residence. During the search, evidence related to drug trafficking was seized.

Christian Gordon, a 19-year-old man from Fort Smith, has been charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault and robbery in relation to the two injured men.

The investigation into the drug trafficking is on-going and no charges have been laid on that front at this time.

Elsewhere, on October 11th, the Fort Smith RCMP responded to a complaint of two men who were unlawfully inside a residence in Fort Smith. RCMP officers attended the residence and arrested the two men who were attempting to leave in a taxi. During a search incidental to the arrest, a loaded handgun was located on one of the men. Officers also found two loaded magazines, 35 tablets suspected to be oxycontin, 7 grams of cocaine and approximately $600 in cash.

The two men, 20-year-old Isiah Zehimi of Tara, Ontario and 20-year-old Ethienne Ruhumuriza of Edmonton, Alberta are facing charges including:

– Being Unlawfully in a Dwelling House
– Possession of the Proceeds of Crime
– Possession of Controlled Substance for the purpose of Trafficking

Additionally, Ruhumuriza is facing charges of:
– Carrying a concealed weapon
– Possession of a restricted firearm without a licence
– Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
