Julie Green Announces Recipients of Annual Healthy Choices fund

Julie Green, Minister of Health and Social Services announced this year’s recipients of the Healthy Choices Fund. Twenty-five organizations received funding to help them maximize the impact of health promotion and prevention activities that support individuals, families, and communities in making positive lifestyle choices.

Some of this year’s successful proposals include:

– Délı̨nę Got’ine Government’s healthy diet and lifestyle workshop and gathering series: “Délı̨nę’s Strong Healthy Family Program”;

– “GLOW: Gaining Life Skills Our Way”: Foster Family Coalition’s youth program with a focus on education support, tutoring, healthy eating, and learning life skills;

– Inuvik Native Band’s “Drug Diversion and Intervention Support” which offers counselling and traditional skill workshops as an alternative to drug use; and

– Soaring Eagle Friendship Centre’s culture, cooking and mental wellness workshop and gathering series, “Great North”.

The Healthy Choices Fund helps eligible organizations and community governments maximize the impact of health promotion and prevention activities that support Northwest Territories communities and their residents in making positive lifestyle choices. It is intended to focus on increasing education and awareness around healthy choices, especially children, youth and seniors, to enable residents to participate in healthy choices through the community environment and available resources.
