Town of Fort Smith to begin hydrant flushing, residential water may appear “dirty” in early October

The Town of Fort Smith has announced biannual flushing of the town’s fire hydrants will begin in early October.

The procedure is scheduled to begin October 3 at 8:00 am, and finish on October 5 at 5:00 pm, affecting the entire town.

Residents can expect turbid or “dirty looking” water after neighbourhood hydrants are flushed. If this occurs, residents are asked to run their taps until the turbidity disappears, remove the tap screen, and clean.

According to the Town of Fort Smith, the turbidity does not present a health concern, and is purely an aesthetic issue.

Any questions are to be directed to the Town of Fort Smith Water Treatment Plant at (867)-872-8400.
