Hay River Corridor remains secure as residents begin re-entry

As residents return to KFN and Hay River, they are reminded to prepare for increased fire behaviour east of the river, including large plumes of smoke heading into Tuesday.

According to NWT Fire, the smoky conditions do not imply any change in safety as the corridor has been secured and protected from any fire growth; however, an evacuation alert remains for the community as a precaution.

Officials say containment lines and fire breaks continue to hold outside Hay River and K’átł’odeeche areas with no perimeter breaches.

During re-entry, residents are reminded that the current situation is not risk-free or even fire-free, as the blaze remains active in the area. NWT Fire says living with fire will be a reality across the NWT and the flames will need to be managed at least until the snow falls.
