Power restored in all but two commercial buildings in Fort Smith, electricity remains off outside of town

Just two Fort Smith commercial buildings are left in the Northwest Territories Power Corporation’s re-energization plan as residents begin their return home.

According to the NTPC, the two buildings will be re-energized as soon as crews are able to access the buildings to ensure power is restored safely.

The NTPC says all occupied residences in the neighbouring community of Bell Rock have been re-energized.

Customers returning to their homes will find an information package near their front door with NTPC contact information to have their power restored.

Power in Salt River, 30 minutes outside of Fort Smith, remains off and will remain off until the GNWT Electrical Inspector (EI) is able to ensure each connection so power can be restored safely.

Additionally, power remains off in Thebacha due to fire proximity and to ensure fire crew safety. Structures are to remain de-energized until the EI is able to tour the area and determine whether it is safe to restore power.
