City of Yellowknife and SPCA ensuring safety for any pets left behind

The City of Yellowknife and the NWT SPCA have announced a partnership to ensure the safety of pets that may remain in the city as the evacuation process continues.

The SPCA is providing water and food to pets in homes that have been identified through contact with the SPCA.

According to the SPCA, the number of requests for support, combined with the unkown timeline that evacuees may be out of their homes, they have begun working to retrieve pets from homes.

Anyone looking to receive support for an animal is encouraged to fill out the Pet Retrieval Form to request their pet be checked on.

Teams, including members of the Municipal Enforcement Division, a locksmith, and animal care specialists will enter homes to check on the wellbeing of pets and a plan will be made by staff regarding continued care for the animal.
