Infrared scanning indicates minor fire progression, blaze stands 15km from Yellowknife

NWT Fire says drier days are ahead, with temperatures reaching the early-to-mid 20’s and wind shifts are expected in the coming days.

In a report, NWT Fire says southwesterly winds have caused fire activity to pick up slightly outside Yellowknife in the afternoon as the area has dried out.

The fire remains 15km from the city, but NWT Fire says the blaze is unlikely to reach the capital today or tomorrow.

According to NWT Fire, winds are expected to shift tomorrow, shifting to the east, which they say should push the fire back into itself and will likely not progress significantly tomorrow.

Crews say work has continued on the growing network of fuel breaks, sprinklers, and other protective measures, with the control line outside the city growing to over 10km.

Additionally, infrared scanning has indicated nearly 40km of hot line at the perimeter, with few new hot areas discovered beyond the fire perimeter to the east, indicating minor progression.
