NWT RCMP reports 32 impaired driving incidents in July 2023

Following an uptick in impaired driving in the NWT, the RCMP has released a statement surrounding the seemingly growing issue.

According to the RCMP, 32 drivers were charged with impaired driving offences in July 2023 alone.

“Despite the significant trauma that this activity has caused to the communities in the territory, people are still driving while impaired,” the RCMP says.

“Call a friend or family member in the middle of the night and explain you need a ride because you’ve been drinking. Trust us, they’d rather you call them than have the police come to the door to tell them you’ve been killed in a drunk driving collision,” they add.

In the past two weeks, the RCMP has confirmed over five significant impaired driving incidents all over the territory, from Fort Liard to Hay River.
