Spot fires spread throughout the NWT, NWT Fire says no communities are under direct threat

NWT Fire confirmed 14 new fires since the last update, calling most of them “no concern.”

However, the fire near Tsiighetchic is approaching nearly 5000 hectares in size and burns approximately 60-65km southeast of the community.

According to NWT Fire, embers have travelled across the Mackenzie River to the north and a spot fire has developed. NWT Fire adds the flames from the Tsiigehetchic fire are generating large smoke plumes visible from Inuvik. However, NWT Fire says no communities are threatened as of last night.

Fires around the more remote areas of the territory are seemingly the highest cause for concern. Cabins and highways from Nahanni, Tulita, and 12 Mile Creek are under threat from fires while fire crews continue their efforts, installing sprinklers and establishing lines.
