21-year-old accidentally killed in motor vehicle incident

On June 27th around 1:20 am, Hay River RCMP responded to a complaint of a sudden death.

RCMP attended the scene, a section of beach on Great Slave Lake near the Town of Hay River, and discovered a deceased 21-year-old male.

According to the RCMP, the initial investigation determined that a vehicle had become stuck in the sand on the beach front. A second vehicle was attempting to tow the vehicle out when the tow rope unexpectedly disconnected and struck the 21-year-old, causing his death.

“This incident was reported by witnesses and they all remained on scene until police arrived,” RCMP representatives tell MyTrueNorthNow.

Hay River RCMP are assisting the NWT Coroner’s Service with the investigation and police say there is currently no indication of any criminality involved with the incident.
