GNWT seeking public input on water management plans

The territorial government is looking for public input on a water boundary negotiation with Yukon.

The agreement, currently being negotiated, is called the Transboundary Water Management Agreements with Yukon.

The territorial government is currently negotiating boundary agreements with the Yukon territorial government. Two separate agreements for the Peel/Mackenzie Delta and Liard water basins have already been negotiated. Waters that flow between Yukon and the NWT are located within these two areas.

Public feedback will go into the Intentions Documents, which will be included in the agreement signed with the Yukon government.

The GNWT is also looking for input on the territory’s strategic water management plan which will be included in a What We Heard Report alongside the new Water Stewardship Strategy Action Plan 2021-2025 in the summer of 2021.

Feedback can be submitted on the Environment and Natural Resources website until March 15, 2021.
