Deline is about to see an uptick in their Chinese tourism market.
Techiɂq Ltd., the business arm of the Deline Got’ine Government, has reached an agreement with a major Chinese tour operator, Beijing Best Tour Company.
The agreement is expected to boost the Northern community’s tourism numbers for various activities, which includes aurora viewing.
The community will be in charge of organizing flights between Deline and Yellowknife for tourists, with Beijing Best organizing every other facet of the trips. Visitors will be able to stay at the newly upgraded Grey Goose Lodge.
Sahtu MLA Daniel McNeely was part of the recent trade mission to complete the agreement and raved about the new deal.
“This is great news for Deline and the Sahtu region, and it’s just the first step in a series of potential agreements that will lead to further economic development that truly benefits the people of the region.”
Techiɂq CEO Bob Gill thanked Yellowknife-based Northern Gateway Consulting Services for assisting in the Cooperation Agreement and added that the agreement is just a start of a greater relationship.
“We will be entering into a broader working relationship with Northern Gateway, and have plans for future exciting developments for Deline and the Sahtu to come.”
According to the Deline Got’ine Government, the community is continuing it’s route of becoming a top international tourism market, citing it’s own self-government successes and the “UNESCO-designated Tsá Tué Biosphere Reserve on Great Bear Lake— North America’s largest and the first in the world operated by indigenous ownership.“
