Alleged drug dealer arrested after hiding in crawl space of a home

Police report that one person, who was hiding out in the crawl space of someone’s home in Whati, has been arrested in connection to a seizure of drugs and cash.

Whatì RCMP said that on June 19 they received several tips about an alleged drug-dealer operating out of a crawlspace from a residence within the community.

After receiving assistance from the homeowner, who was unaware of the person hiding in the crawlspace, police were able to locate approximately 140 grams of suspected crack-cocaine along with approximately $7000 in cash. 

A 19-year-old from Yellowknife was arrested in the crawlspace and is facing charges including:

  • Being unlawfully in a dwelling, contrary to section 349(1) of the Criminal Code
  • Possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, contrary to section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act

He appeared before a Justice of the Peace and was subsequently remanded into custody.

“Information from the public is the best tool police have when combating the drug trade. The Whatì RCMP wishes to express gratitude to those community members who refuse to tolerate illicit drugs in their community,” said police in their announcement today.

All
