Yellowknife RCMP lay charges after report of an armed robbery on Friday

Yellowknife RCMP announced today that a man is being held in custody in relation to a report of an armed robbery on Friday.

At approximately 11:57 a.m. on May 16, officers received a report that a male suspect had robbed a business on Old Airport Road. It was reported that the suspect took a quantity of merchandise and fled on foot after threatening staff with a knife.

“Officers, including a member of the Police Dog Services Unit, attended the location immediately and quickly located the suspect,” said Yellowknife RCMP in their announcement today.

 A 36-year-old man from Yellowknife was arrested without incident and is facing charges of Extortion without firearm contrary to section 346 (1.1)(b).

The suspect has appeared before a Justice of the Peace and was remanded into custody. He is scheduled to appear again before a Justice of the Peace on May 21.
